1. Investor Charter

The SEBI Investor Charter is a comprehensive framework introduced by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) in 2021 to protect the interests of investors in the Indian securities market. Its primary goal is to promote transparency, enhance financial literacy, and ensure that investors are treated fairly by market intermediaries.

The charter is designed to be a one-stop reference guide for investors, clearly outlining what they can expect from the market and what is expected of them.

Key components of the SEBI Investor Charter

1. Vision and Mission

Vision: To protect the interests of investors by enabling them to understand the risks involved and invest in a fair, transparent, and secure market, and to receive services in a timely and efficient manner.

Mission: To streamline investment procedures, ensure fair and equitable treatment, ensure intermediaries adhere to grievance redressal mechanisms, and provide alternative dispute resolution options.

2. Rights of Investors

The charter explicitly guarantees certain rights to investors, including the right to:

  • Receive fair and equitable treatment from all market entities.
  • Get quality services from SEBI-registered intermediaries (like stockbrokers, mutual funds, investment advisors, etc.).
  • Expect the timely redressal of investor grievances filed through the SEBI Complaints Redress System (SCORES) or the Online Dispute Resolution (SMART ODR) platform.
  • Exit from a financial product or service at fair and reasonable terms.
